With its blend of rich history and friendly locals, Jordan is a little known Middle-Eastern dream for tourists. Jordan’s is most memorable for Lawrence of Arabia, but has much more to offer than a film credit.
It is host to some of the most outstanding ancient architecture the world has to offer, with the ancient city of Petra a prime example of this. Lost for 1000 years and only rediscovered in 1812, this ancient capital of the Nabateans is a sight to be seen, as the whole city is hewn from the side of a cliff. Also, there is Jerash, a near-perfectly preserved Roman city containing the temple of Zeus as well as the South Theatre, which was capable of holding 5,000 spectators.
The best time to visit Jordan is during spring or autumn, therefore avoiding the ludicrous heat of the summer sun and the blistering cold of the winter winds.
