The word Ethiopia has been synonymously linked to famine and suffering ever since 1985. However, now a thriving nation which much to offer in tourism, Ethiopia is now a good place to enjoy a very unique holiday. Ethiopia is Africa’s only major country never to be colonised, meaning that all the history here is purely African with no outside influences.
This heritage can be explored in the museums in the capital Addis Ababa. And while there, you can see Lucy, a 3.5 million year old skeleton and the oldest found specimen of human life. While in Ethiopia, you can also head to Aksum and search for the Ark of the Covenant, which holds the Ten Commandments, which is supposedly located here according to the Orthodox Christian locals. There are also islands to visit on Lake Tana, the Blue Nile Falls, and bird watching in the Rift Valley Lakes to keep you entertained.
Ethiopia holds an average temperature of 20oC all year round so it is pleasant to visit all year round. However, be aware that the rainy season spans from July to September.
